Ten Steps To Booking A Dallas Wedding Photographer
1. Search Internet–Facebook, Google, Yahoo. Ask your venue for a list of recommended photographers (other venues’ lists of photographers, too). Be careful about booking whoever shows up first in WeddingWire or TheKnot. They pay large sums of money to appear there. Booking the photographer who can afford to spend the most money on advertising may not be in your best financial interest.
2. Go to their websites. Bookmark all the sites you love OR write them down.
3. Narrow down to your top 5 photographers with your partner based on the quality of the work, the quality of the site, the reviews, …
4. Call each photographer. Confirm wedding date availability & price range (please don’t ask the photographer to go into pricing details over the phone). Then set up time to meet.
5. Everyone needs to attend the photographer. Trust me on this one! The groom is a must too even if he doesn’t ‘care about photography’. Both the bride and groom need to attend the meeting with the photographer. The groom is just as important to the process. Personally, I won’t book a wedding couple without knowing WE are a match and fit.
6. Bring a notebook and take notes. Have your list of questions prepared. It’s KINDA like an interview. Just have fun. Weddings are meant to be fun. Some photographers will even bring out a bottle of champagne and cheese (I’m not sure that is classy or a way to justify their pricing).
7. What does your GUT tell you about the work and the photographer? At the end of the day, the decade, and your life, the only thing you will have in your hands are the images and memories those images spark…. You may not be able to afford for them to be at your wedding from sun up to sun down, but you can probably afford for them to be there!
8. Understand the pricing completely. Ask questions. Write them down. Take a copy of the price list. Photographers should LOCK the price list for the duration of your wedding.
9. Read the contract and fully understand the refund policy, balance due dates, copyrights, meal provisions …
10. Book the photographer before someone else does!
